Look Directly Into Laser!
Laser EVAL Board capable emitting adequate light power cause damage. protective eyewear when viewing Laser. Note: SML2120 device registers preconfigured with Default Configuration Settings shown SML2120 data sheet. Settings specific SML2120EV evaluation included Intel format file located programmed into SML2120 samples shipped with SML2120EV kit. Optional: Click `HEX' folder icon load `SML2120EV.Default Hex' file from CD-ROM drive. Optional: Click `Write Config' button. This configures SML2120 registers accurately monitor Laser bias current along with performing other supervisory functions. Hardware Note: Dongle interface generates impedance source power program SML2120. Ensure jumpers their correct position displayed Figure Connect 3.3V power source EVAL board follows: Connect terminal 3.3V supply `GND' connect opposite side where Dongle connector located. Connect terminal 3.3V supply either `VDD' connect pins. Ensure slide switch (SW1) slid `VCC/GND' position. Switch 3.3V power source Laser (U2) indicates that EVAL Board functional passing programmed BIAS current. Explore SML2120 features changing many configurable parameters. Confirm programmed settings agree with actual measurements. Observe functionality SML2120 varying settings confirming Laser intensity changes according programmed settings.
Operating Instructions
Test Equipment Required Personal Computer with Windows later O/S) parallel port. Power Supply, 3.3V, 500mA. Oscilloscope, Digital sampling, 4-channel High Accuracy (e.g., HP34401A equivalent) Test Steps Software setup Close open Windows application programs. Insert "SML2120EV Software" into CD-ROM drive. Follow installation instructions, rebooting computer when prompted. After computer reboots, perform full power shutdown install Dongle. Dongle installation caution when programming EVAL Board. Dongle supplies power board therefore turn Laser Caution: apply power sources SML2120 evaluation board while Dongle connected board. Remove existing cabling from computer's parallel port (LPT1). Connect Dongle parallel port. Insert Dongle cable onto SML2120 Evaluation board connector (pin board corresponds white wire with orange stripe, also SMX3200 Dongle Info Page SMX3200 Data Sheet ROM, site document package). Reapply power computer. After computer restarts, open `SML2120 Programmer' application program click `Standard Settings' button then `Read Config' button. dialog shown Figure will appear screen.
