completely self-contained counter/display module, treated component just like other I.C. provides capabilities with additional modes operation. These are: Bi-directional counting with UP/DOWN control ideal length measurement, where change direction occur; Quadrature counting (two pulse trains, shifted from another 90°) -commonly used positioning applications. additional capability inhibiting counts both inputs, used under certain conditions prevent false counts. snap mounts directly onto 1/16" thick P.C. BI-DIRECTIONAL COUNTING MODES
Bi-Directional counting, input serves count input, while input serves direction control input. Times Mode when level, negative going transition will cause counter count positive direction. When high level, negative going transition will cause counter count negative direction. Table illustrates level settings Mode Select Inputs various modes BiDirectional counting. Times Mode works like Times Mode except counter increments both positive negative going transitions "A". There also Divide-By Modes which prescale display 100. This results capability displaying digit internal counter. (Along with Times this gives equivalent display.)
DECIMAL POINT LEADING ZERO BLANKING SELECTION

QUADRATURE COUNTING MODES
Quadrature Times counting, input serves count input while input serves quadrature input. (Input pulse train shifted away from "A".) counter will count positive going direction when negative going signal low. counter will count negative going direction when positive going signal low. transitions ignored when high. These logic rules provide basis anti-jitter operation which will prevent false counts from occurring, back-lash, vibration, chatter, etc. Table illustrates level settings Mode Select Inputs various modes Quadrature counting. Times Quadrature Mode works same Times when low. when high, counts longer ignored "A". Instead, logic rules complemented, allowing both edges counted. This gives effective doubling display count more importantly, doubles resolution input. Times Mode extends this even further.
