LM317 adjustable three-terminal positive-voltage regulator capable supplying more than over output-voltage range exceptionally easy requires only external resistors output voltage. Furthermore, both line load regulation better than standard fixed regulators. LM317 packaged (TO-220AB) packages, which easy handle use. addition having higher performance than fixed regulators, this device includes on-chip current limiting, thermal overload protection, safe-operating-area protection. overload protection remains fully functional, even ADJUST terminal disconnected. LM317 versatile applications, including uses programmable output regulation local on-card regulation. connecting fixed resistor between ADJUST OUTPUT terminals, LM317 function precision current regulator. optional output capacitor added improve transient response. ADJUST terminal bypassed achieve very high ripple-rejection ratios, which difficult achieve with standard three-terminal regulators. LM317 characterized operation over virtual junction temperature range 125°C.
