Description
LM117/LM217/LM317 monolithic integrated circuit TO-220, TO-220FP, TO-3 D2PAK packages intended positive adjustable voltage regulators. They designed supply more than 1.5A load current with output voltage adjustable over range. nominal output voltage selected means only resistive divider, making device exceptionally easy eliminating stocking many fixed regulators.

Application information
Application information
LM117/217/317 provides internal reference voltage 1.25V between output adjustments terminals. This used constant current flow across external resistor divider (see Figure 3.), giving output voltage VREF R2/R1) IADJ device designed minimize term IADJ (100µA max) maintain very constant with line load changes. Usually, error term IADJ neglected. obtain previous requirement, regulator quiescent current returned output terminal, imposing minimum load current condition. load insufficient, output voltage will rise.
