Introduction
ISL6414 integrates three ultra noise, dropout linear regulators providing highly integrated single-chip solution 802.11 wireless chipset architectures. operates from 3.0V 3.8V input provides preset output voltages LDO1 1.8V, LDO2 LDO3 2.84V. device features power sequencing specifically wireless chipsets. outputs sequenced such that LDO1, 1.8V core regulator voltage, always within regulation before LDO2, 2.84V output LDO, sequenced When powering down, power 2.84V LDO2 removed before 1.8V LDO1 core regulator sequenced off. Designed with internal P-channel MOSFET pass transistor, ISL6414 operates with supply current. output fault detection circuit indicates loss regulation three outputs. Other features include logic controlled shutdown mode, short circuit thermal shutdown protection, reverse battery protection. ISL6414 also includes RESET function. Integration this function into ISL6414 eliminates additional RESET external support components required wireless chipset power supply applications. asserts RESET signal whenever (IN) supply voltage drops below preset threshold, keeping asserted least 100ms after (IN) risen above reset threshold. RESET outputs provided; RESET push-pull active-LOW output, while RESET active-HIGH output.
Quick Start Evaluation
evaluation board shipped "ready use" right from box. board accepts 3.3V input from standard power supply. output exercised through external load. There posts available board introducing power board drawing current from regulated outputs. Post connectors also available monitor power good conditions FAULT (P11), RESET (P9) RESET (P10). Posts Shutdown functions SHDN (P12) SHDN3 (P13) allows power mode function testing. Each evaluation board sent with samples ISL6414IR.

Power Load Connections
Input Voltage Connect positive lead adjustable bench power supply 3.3V post (P3). Connect ground lead supply post (P4). Output Voltages ISL6414EVAL1 provides fixed output voltages Wireless Chipset applications. Internal trimmed resistor networks inside chip nominal output voltages below: VOUT1 1.8V (P5) VOUT2 2.84V (P7) VOUT3 2.84V (P1) outputs exercised through external load connectors. maximum currents VOUT1 500mA, VOUT2 300mA VOUT3 -200mA. Output Loading, Sourcing Current load VOUT1 output connect positive lead electronic load VOUT1 (P5) post return terminal same load channel (P6) post. Similarly connect positive terminal second load channel VOUT2 (P7) post return terminal (P8) post load output LDO2. LDO3 output loaded connecting positive terminal third channel electronic load VOUT3 (P1) post return terminal (P2) post.

Dropout Voltage
ISL6414 features typical rDS(ON) P-channel MOSFET pass transistors. This provides several advantages over similar designs using bipolar pass transistors. P-Channel MOSFET requires base drive, which reduces quiescent current considerably. based regulators waste considerable current dropout when pass transistor saturates. They also high base drive currents under large loads. ISL6414 does suffer from these problems ultra drop-out regulators maintain 2.84V supplies within regulation with worst case minimum line input. Both LDO2 LDO3 supply full load with less then 3.0V input. Figure below shows dropout voltage output load current both LDO2 LDO3.

Current Limit
ISL6414 monitors controls pass transistor's gate voltage limit output current. current limit LDO1 550mA, LDO2 330mA LDO3 250mA. Performance over current event tested applying over load respective outputs. FAULT output will over current condition three LDO. ISL6414 based DC-DC converter fully protected from short circuit ground outputs current limit thermal protection features.
Integrated RESET MAC/ Baseband Processors
ISL6414 includes microprocessor supervisory circuit. This circuit eliminates extra RESET external components needed wireless chipset applications. This block performs single function; asserts RESET signal whenever supply voltage decreases below preset threshold 2.63V, keeping asserted programmable time (set external capacitor after voltage risen above RESET threshold.

push pull output stage reset circuit provides both active-Low RESET (P10) active-HIGH RESET (P9) output. This function guaranteed correct state down addition issuing reset microprocessor during power-up, power down brownout conditions, this block relatively immune short duration, negative-going transients/glitches. Figure below shows relations between RESET timing capacitor programmable RESET delay.
Thermal Overload Protection
Thermal overload protection limits total power dissipation ISL6414. When junction temperature (TJ) exceeds +150°C, thermal sensor sends signal shutdown logic, turning pass transistor allowing cool. pass transistor turns again after IC's junction temperature cools 20°C, resulting pulsed output during continuous thermal overload conditions. Thermal overload protection protects ISL6414 against fault conditions. continuous operation, exceed absolute maximum junction temperature rating +150°C.

Shutdown
Driving SHDN input (P12) puts both LDO1 LDO2 into shutdown mode. Driving SHDN3 (P13) input puts LDO3 shutdown mode. Pulling SHDN SHDN3 pins simultaneously, puts entire chip into shutdown mode, supply current drops typical. External pull resistors required because both SHDN SHDN3 inputs have internal pull-up resistors, that normal operation outputs always enabled. During shutdown mode using SHDN pin, FAULT output will remain HIGH (refer Figure 11).
Fault-Detection Circuitry
FAULT monitors LDO1 output regulation, well fault conditions such current limit thermal shutdown. FAULT output goes LOW, LDO1 output regulation ±5.5% (typ.). During shutdown mode using SHDN pin, FAULT output will remain HIGH (refer Figure 11).
